The 2.5L in the Maverick - which is significantly larger than the ICE in your Volt and placed in a significantly less aero platform - can only pull 27mpg at best when on.
I guess you must be going 80 mph or really hilly? to get 27 mpg?? I drove 250 miles at 68 mph with TWO 17 foot long kayaks on roof then back got 32 mpg. Speed does kill mph. Oh it was ALL 500 miles highway, well maybe 20 miles not highway. .

I liked the car care nut's review of the Ford Lightning that dropped last night. All his reviews are very informative and unbiased (sans Toyota maybe since he is a Toyota master tech).

An electric pickup is for guys like the above that don't drive more a 100-150 miles a day and can literally use it to power their business. I love that one because the guy got rid of bunch of equipment that does nothing but produce pollution and noise AND made is business more profitable, and simpler to run.

Also people that just go from A to B 99% of the time in the same range parameters.

If Ford actually makes something that is a bit smaller and half the price with all the same function, I say good, I hope they sell them as fast as they can make them.

I never understand this. The plug in cost about 4 to 5 grand more (Bigger Battery) . You will NEVER make up that cost in savings on less gas. Unless you fall into one of those weird categories you drive to work all EV and charge at work for free to drive home other wise you wont save a dime ,. . So WHY, I really am interested in an answer. It wont save you a dime in the end.

So is it because its cool to drive all EV for a while? Friends tesla was super quite but the auto pilot impressed me way more.

Prices fell for sure. Looked like they were going to get down to where I was considering picking one up. But then they stabilized and kept the price of a ER larger battery just outside of where I was willing to stretch for one. They have been evolving the truck and adding lots of things that were missing, but taking many things that were there away in the process. You need to get into a 2024+ if you want a heat pump and many of the software updates weren't backwards compatible with the 2022-2023 trucks. So they are left twisting in the wind. They did release some updates that actually improved charging performance which was a real surprise. Sadly the Lightning stayed out of my reach. I am thankful because I don't have the space for a Lightning in the garage the way things are. The Maverick is the right size for what I need for the daily driver.

Or they figure out 150 miles of rated range really isn't 150 miles... Once you bump into reality perspective changes.
Every EV I've driven (a whole two) got EXACTLY the advertised miles per charge in 32°F to 110°F conditions. Never had opportunity to go colder.

Those of you in the north, there's always fossil fueled global warming to look forward to!

Well I have driven quite a few, owned 3. And can tell you not a one ever got the rated range. And I can point you to many EV sites that have tested this and show exactly what I am saying. If you would like some links to Carwow, Inside EV's, Edmunds testing we can share those for those who really want to know what kind of range to expect. If you want to see an eye opening comparison Bjorn Nyland in Norway does a pretty thorough summer and winter tests. He does a pretty good 90km and 120km runs and shows exactly the breakdown in range, efficiency. Out of Spec on Youtube does a pretty decent 70mph range test as well, but sadly his runs he runs those cars dead down into the bottom buffer of the battery. No one who plans to own a vehicle and wants to keep it should ever treat a battery like this, but you can look up their range test spreadsheet also and watch the videos.

If they'd offered an EV Maverick for the price near that of.my hybrid with at least 300 miles of range, I probably would have purchased it. So an affordable EV midsize truck is interesting. But the range probably won't be enough.

You can always go up to the stated amperage of the circuit. I know someone who replaced a 15 amp, 120v breaker and downstream outlets, with a 20 amp breaker and outlets. Then they plugged in a couple window AC units along with a table saw. It didn't happen right away but within a year he had an electrical fire. Breaker never tripped but the wire degraded and over heated catching on fire.
What I posted was more safety conservative.

I would never recommend pulling full circuit rating continuously for an EV changer. Which is why I recommended 80%. Which is customary.

I am not an electrician don't plan on rewiring anything although, I have an outlet in the foyer on a art display shelf 10' above the floor. It is only HOT on when the bathroom light is turned on 🤷‍♂️
Thank you, for your postings they've been interesting and informative.
I will definitely know if an electrician ever says well we'll just put in a bigger breaker that we need to check the wiring too👍

I'm a loner Dottie, a rebel.
I installed our EV charger myself, directly from the fuse box with it's own breaker.
however, it's just a 20a circuit with a regular 120vac outlet via 12g wire with a 30' +/- run.
It takes about 6-7 hours to charge our Fiat 500e from 10% to 90%, cuz, tiny battery.

I for one will be ordering one on the first day the order banks open.

I guess that like the Maverick there will be XL, XLT, Lariat versions (or whatever they will call them) and I usually don't order the barebones but one step higher.

So just guessing the MSRP price for the one level above the base will be $34,000 plus destination charge which will bring the price to around $36,000 before TT&L.

I have had a Maverick XLT Hybrid since December 2021.
MY2022: December 13, 2021 through August 28, 2023 when it was sold to Carvana.
MY2023: September 21, 2023 through present and will keep until one month before delivery of the New Ford EV Midsize Pickup when it too will be sold to Carvana or traded in whichever is the better value.

My Maverick has served it purpose just fine but I do not need it for any long trips as the wife's 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid handles that just fine. I love the adaptive cruise in the RAV4 vs the standard cruise on my Maverick.

In the 23 months I have owned the 2023 Maverick I only have 9300 miles on it and that included a 2800 mile vacation in 2024.

These are the points that I feel the New Ford EV Midsize Pickup will be better long term than my current Maverick Hybrid.

Lower maintenance costs



Also no trips to the gas station

Most of my trips average about 2 miles and the longest about 25 miles round trip and as seen above I average about 10 miles a day as we are both retired.

Only charging at home at night.

I also like the feature where it can provide power to our home in case of a blackout.

With the idiots running Texas they have done nothing to alleviate the 2021 blackout from happening again and have actually increased the odds with all the Bitcoin mining farms and AI Data centers.

The New Ford EV Midsize Pickup will serve all my needs: Hauling our eBikes (trailer hitch mounted carrier) and the occasional truck bed stuff for our lawn and garden needs.
A new Full EV . . . not interested. A PHEV however, . . . you bet . . .
