It's going to be very different that's why. I picture it to be a cab forward pickup, more like a van front end. Only way a mid size will have an interior larger than a RAV 4 as they claim.Oh oh weird why not just use staple name but ok

Japan and West Germany built up their auto exports to the US with weakened currencies as well, or at least when the USD was artificially stronger than it should have been in the 70s.
Doesn't really matter though what the exchange rate is since Chinese vehicles made in China will always be de facto embargoed from import. If BYD was allowed to build a factory in the US using US labor and similar material and component supply chains to existing manufacturers, I think they would still crush them in cost. No different than when Honda and Toyota built factories here if you filters out all the politics (not really possible though).
On the original topic, I am interested to see if Ford can do an EV under $30K, because I have kinda given up on most of the other legacy automakers that have already regressed to being regressive again, and seem to be gearing up to sell more cars people don't want to buy.
Chinese manufacturers like BYD are already way past the tipping point where 1:1 EVs cost less to manufacture than ICE vehicles, without purchase subsidies. With the manufacturing scaled out now*, they are simply easier vehicles to build using far fewer parts.
I put the asterick there because China got there buying up IP, doing their own research, and funding startups with state backed loans knowing EVs would be a strategic investment for the future. Imagine if we did that without bungling through constantly changing policies and private companies building luxury flying saucers of the future no one wants that resulted in billions of write-offs.
I read where entire cities in China were built to receive subsidies.Thinking vs reality are 2 very separate things.
China commie culture is steal 1st develop 2nd, & always cover up defects for a quick buck.
Ive worked in the automotive manufacturing industry over 15 years, Tier 1 suppliers could order from China, if you have Chinese management you'll sooner or later end up eith dogshit parts & faked testing.

China's flagship BYD is facing a possible bankruptcy reorganization, without the extremely sizeable govt subsidies it was recieving.
Acres of fields of new EVs in China that were only sold on paper to recieve subsidies
Constant vigilance with on site QA and adherence design specifications is not unique to Chinese contract manufacturers / ODMs, or anyone who has ever hired a contractor to do anything.Thinking vs reality are 2 very separate things.

I couldn't have said it better. We have been losing ground since the end of the 70s. It is our fault and you can't blame the others success!Constant vigilance with on site QA and adherence design specifications is not unique to Chinese contract manufacturers / ODMs, or anyone who has ever hired a contractor to do anything.
Bit different game now that those companies have grown into their own brands that they want to grow and protect. There is definitely a problem with overcapacity in EV production there now that some companies won't survive, but BYD isn't one of them. They are in a much better position than any American or European EV startup, even Tesla I would say since they have gained a huge market share in the developing world and Chinese market already.
Don't take this as a pro-China position though; I want our automakers to make something that is as good or better rather than relying on tariffs and hubris to protect them from market dynamics.
My Maverick is kinda mid sized. Bigger than my old Ranger and my old Courier. Moving target, like the American waistline. When I first hear about the EV truck from ford they said mid sized. Now I have seen several articles saying Maverick sized. I wonder what it REALLY will be.

wow, i remember those back in the 60's. Ugly then, Really Ugly Now
Maverick is currently a compact class. The new EV truck will be a mid size, so larger than the Maverick. My Maverick is kinda mid sized. Bigger than my old Ranger and my old Courier. Moving target, like the American waistline.
