What if you don't want to stay on a pre assigned route?
The current target is for the general vehicle user, IE the masses. For those of us who are edge cases we aren't the target customer. We should wait until chargers are where you want to go to get an EV in that case. My road trips were though lots of EV deserts and it is a pain in the backside. Can it be done? Generally speaking yes, but far from ideal. Those that live in or near metro areas are the ideal candidate for EVs.

Very true. Which is the reason I am buying one as soon as it hits the market.

Reasons:

Lots of short trips (1-3 miles). My longest will be a 125 mile round trip from Dallas to the Winstar Casino near the I-35 and Oklahoma border.

Only charging at home at night in my garage. So no need to ever go to a Charging station.

Ford states that it can power an average home for 6 days which is a piece of mind for me here in Texas where imbeciles are running the state. With them in charge another 2021 long power outage is just around the corner with all the Bitcoin mining farms and AI Data centers that keep being added.

No oil changes (nor any other maintenance that ICE engines need)

No trips to the gas station.

The New Ford EV Midsize Pickup will serve all my needs: Hauling our eBikes (trailer hitch mounted carrier) and the occasional truck bed stuff for our lawn and garden needs.

My Maverick has served its purpose just fine but I do not need it for any long trips as the wife's 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid handles that just fine. I love the adaptive cruise in the RAV4 vs the standard cruise on my Maverick.

Just one thought about charging stations . Yes more are being installed BUT at the same time more EV vehicles will be added. So in the end wil it be any better? I see lines BIG lines like days worth. Even gas stations I have seen lines yet take 5 minutes unlike EV at best 30 minutes . Assuming they can do top charge rate.

Most stories i have read when a station is full of vehicles the station itself cant handle full rate of charge making it even slower. .Last video I saw was at a Walmart. It had a line and charge rate was quite reduced. So many here believe station issues will get better. I think just the opposite. Yes I can predict the future lol. My Guess.

Yes many who would never use a station would be fine and great option assuming cost is even close what ford says which I HIGHLY doubt,

For the reasons I stated above in post # 140.
A plug-in/PHEV Maverick with a range extending engine, would check all boxes for me.👍
Very similar to the drivetrain of
Chevy Volts I owned.

I think a true year around daily 100 miles EV range(regardless of temps, weather etc) with a range extender ICE onboard probably would do most of what I would want in the compact/small truck space. I don't have illusions of towing heavy loads in the Maverick class truck. I think this would allow me to stay in EV mode most of the time for local stuff, but have ample range to do anything else I need when things aren't a "normal" day in the vehicle. I think Ford has mentioned they are going to be looking at the EREV space, but I didn't hear them say they were going to do that with this small truck yet. It sounds like the F150 replacement T3 is likely where we will get the first taste of that.

I was just watching some stuff on sodium batteries yesterday and sounds like those will be more resistant to degradation, and effects of temps, but it will take time for them to ramp up production. The cost promises to be significantly less expensive than today's batteries. Sounds like CATL is going to production soon but probably won't be fully ramped until 2030. Another one that sounded interesting was a hybrid battery that mixes LFP and sodium cells called Freevoy that sounds promising also. One of the issues with LFP is they have a flat state of charge curve and the BMS that manages the charge does not know if the battery is almost full state of charge or almost dead. By mixing the tech they will be able to keep track of the SOC better and no need to overcharge them which causes degradation. That appears to be ready to go into production now in China. Lots of possibly technology leapfrogging in the battery space and highlights todays batteries really aren't that good. Degradation is real.

A 40-45 mile range before the ICE kicks in, would work for me. Smaller battery would keep the cost down.
I find it interesting that Stellantis put their Ram 1500 Rev EV on the back burner, deciding to "fast track" the PHEV Ram 1500 Ramcharger.
Maybe Stellantis saw the lack of interest and sales, despite deep discounts in Ford's F-150 Lightning🤷‍♂️

Autoline was talking about the Stellantis move and the focus is cost. The appetite for expensive trucks in the EV space vanished fast. Demand is soft in the ICE space from the sounds of it with inflation putting the brakes on things.

From the looks of the poll here. It doesn't seem like a strong demand for a Maverick EV.

First off it is NOT an "EV Maverick". Ford announced a 2027 EV Truck that is Mid-size and more in common with the Ranger.

And again this is "A Maverick Forum" and not a universal poll. It is focused on those who currently own or want to own a Maverick .

And 12.5% means that "1 out of 8" of those who own or want to own a Maverick will be buying the new Ford EV truck and another 27% are interested.

It doesn't sound like it will be a Maverick, but I think there is demand for a small/compact truck and having an electric offering I don't think will deter people from it. As more details become available we will know if Ford is bringing enough to move the dial.

People here chomping at the bit that have never owned an EV and think that a 150 mile quoted range means they can go 150 miles is the really funny part. Those people are going to run smack into the rose colored wall with those glasses.

Those talking 6 days of backup power to run your house haven't connected the dots what does it take to run your house for a day? How large is the battery that will be in the entry level EV truck? Right now initial report is 51kwh. 60% of that battery is actually available to you. So divide that across 6 days and ask yourself if that is enough to run your house for that 6 days. Vague marketing is just marketing. Slate quotes a 150 mile range on the entry level truck and 240 with an extended range battery. Again 60% of that is actually usable on a good day. If you want 6 days of real power out of that truck to run your house you better get a Lightning with the ER battery.

EV math is hard for those who haven't lived with it! LOL They will figure it out. You can't talk sense to anyone, they have to make their own choices and live with the reality. People have their minds made up and rarely listen. I used to take it pretty seriously, but now I just laugh. It is a right of passage of sorts!

Anyone who said yes to poll is assuming the 30K prices is REAL . I HIGHLY doubt its even close. I bet the poll would change if you said 40 K starting price. Plus we don't even know what "stated" range in the starting price truck is going to be. What if its a 100 miles? So until we have the stated specs on this vehicle its hard to have a real poll.

It's almost as if it's a hypothetical, non-binding poll based solely on the info that's been presented so far. 🤷‍♂️

If the new Ford Pinto EV pickup gets at least 300 miles per 80% charge and is less than $30k (current dollar value; likely to be over $40k with inflation and tariffs by 2027, and so will the Maverick XL) then I think will be a popular vehicle.
I suspect the bed will shrink to maybe 3', because it's just there to say it's a pickup at this point. I think by 2035 the standard full size pickup bed will be 18-20", just big enough to hold a small cooler.

No. But only because my wife is retired and I work from home, so I hardly drive, and therefore the added expense of any EV doesn't make sense for me.

I have to say that I have been driving a lot more since I got the Mav because it's just so fun, but again, not enough to justify an EV.

I voted "yes" but know the 30K price point is likely going to be 35-37K by time it debuts....I was close to going EV before, but now that I am retired coupled with the fact the the g/f upgraded her ride to a 2024 Escape ST-Line and I usually just let her drive rather than listen to the constant road commentary about my driving, and everyone else's driving makes it an easy choice......we'll see when Mav-Ranch-Pin-Galax-Torin...shows up.
